Innovation Technical Development Manager

Location: Sheetz Corporate - PITTSBURGH, PA




Sheetz’s vision is to put the Sheetz of today out of business, and this position will be a key expert participant in the company’s transformational innovation efforts through our Incubator program. The Innovation Incubator will add sustainable growth and profitability to Sheetz by transforming the market by 10x, through developing market-based opportunities to enhance or disrupt the needs of the convenience-demanding customer.  

The Technical Developer Innovator will contribute directly to technical development of concepts, providing the technical functionality required across the design phase and perspective of commercialization of each concept. This is a key role in the application of Human-Centered Design, which is the driving methodology used by the Incubator.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: (other duties may be assigned)


  1. Contribute to the execution of the Innovation strategy as established by the business.
  2. Work collaboratively with a multi-disciplinary team to deliver expected results of the Incubator.
  3. Leverage technical expertise to contribute to concept development and execution.
  4. Actively participate in innovation processes on behalf of the Incubator and the company, including leading efforts to integrate technical expertise to the processes where appropriate. Work with departments and teams across the company to establish best practices around innovation processes, dependable concept hand-off and integrated project plans for utilizing expertise, information and functionality.
  5. Work collaboratively with stakeholders across the company to integrate innovation concepts into the business and ensure successful implementation and realization.
  6. Foster a culture of innovation and learning within the incubator and across the organization.
  7. Foster relationships outside of the company to introduce new avenues towards innovation development


  1. Possess expert knowledge of multiple applications and function as the ultimate expert for application requirements in concept development
  2. Create and tune complex SQL queries as part of the application development process
  3. Provide leadership and expert level development solutions for the implementation of ideas from inception through the software development life cycle
  4. Lead teams that may include peer-level professionals, specialized technicians, managers contractors, and/or consultants
  5. Engage in collaborative sessions with other team members to integrate technical development into concept development processes and workflows.
  6. Constantly monitor the “technical developer space” to identify new, relevant technical trends, techniques, tools, etc.
  7. Develop relationships in professional technical developer spaces to procure additional support for research functionality within Sheetz or through outside relationships as required.

REQUIREMENTS: (Equivalent combinations of education, licenses, certifications and/or experience may be considered)


  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Management Information Systems, Computer Engineering, or a four-year degree in another field of study which includes computer programming, systems analysis, system development or systems engineering required.
  • MBA or master’s degree in related field preferred.


  • 5-7 years’ experience in applications development role, including demonstrated success with advanced development projects required.
  • 5 years experience in a leadership role, including demonstrated success with multi-person or cross-functional team leadership required.
  • Experience with programming, logic analysis, and current development methodologies preferred.
  • Experience with Design thinking methodology or other innovation frameworks preferred.
  • Prior experience in organizational process improvement, change management, innovation or related area preferred.


  • One or more of the following certifications is preferred:
    • Agile Scrum master certification
    • Agile Certified Practitioner (PMI-ACP) or similar certification
    • Certification in a specific development methodology
