Innovation Experience Design Manager

Location: Sheetz Corporate - PITTSBURGH, PA

 

PRIMARY PURPOSE OF THIS POSITION:

Sheetz’s vision is to put the Sheetz of today out of business, and this position will be a key expert participant in the company’s transformational innovation efforts through our Incubator program. The Innovation Incubator will add sustainable growth and profitability to Sheetz by transforming the market by 10x, through developing market-based opportunities to enhance or disrupt the needs of the convenience-demanding customer.

The Design Innovator will provide significant impact to the Incubator through providing vision and leading the translation of the customer’s voice into thoughtfully-designed solutions in any realm – physical space, product, service, digital. This is a crucial role in the application of Human-Centered Design, which is the driving methodology used by the Incubator.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: (other duties may be assigned)
    Innovation:
  1. Contribute to the execution of the Innovation strategy as established by the business.
  2. Work collaboratively with a multi-disciplinary team to deliver expected results of the Incubator.
  3. Leverage technical expertise to contribute to concept development and execution.
  4. Actively participate in innovation processes on behalf of the Incubator and the company, including leading efforts to integrate technical expertise to the processes where appropriate. Work with departments and teams across the company to establish best practices around innovation processes, dependable concept hand-off and integrated project plans for utilizing expertise, information and functionality.
  5. Work collaboratively with stakeholders across the company to integrate innovation concepts into the business and ensure successful implementation and realization.
  6. Foster a culture of innovation and learning within the incubator and across the organization.
  7. Foster relationships outside of the company to introduce new avenues towards innovation development.

  8. Technical:
  9. Establish design direction in concept development and execution, including but not limited to product, service, digital, physical space, and/or events.
  10. Visualize and create prototypes for testing and consumer feedback across concept development process.
  11. Provide marketing and art direction for media production, photography, video and digital communications related to concept development.
  12. Develop UX design capabilities of the Incubator team.
  13. Engage in collaborative sessions with other team members to integrate design into concept development processes and workflows.
  14. Constantly monitor the “design space” to identify new, relevant design trends, techniques, tools, etc.
  15. Develop relationships in professional design spaces to procure additional support for research functionality within Sheetz or through outside relationships as required.

REQUIREMENTS: (Equivalent combinations of education, licenses, certifications and/or experience may be considered)

Education
  • Bachelor’s degree in design related field required.
  • Master’s degree in related field preferred.
Experience
  • 5-7 years’ experience in agency, studio or in-house in design-related role required.
  • Expertise in Design thinking methodology required.
  • Experience in prototype-development required.
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in product development preferred.
  • Experience working in product development sprints preferred.
