Chief Data Officer

Location: Sheetz Corporate - PITTSBURGH, PA

Sheetz is looking for an experienced Data Officer who will have expertise in creating and driving business value and growth though the effective use data. Will be responsible for developing and administering Sheetz’ data and information strategy in order to facilitate and enhance organizational decision-making and data utilization across the company. In addition to leading a centralized Data and Analytics service, the CDO will develop data-related policies and procedures; design, improve, and streamline organizational data systems; and drive innovation in the area of enterprise-wide data science, analysis and visualization.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: (other duties may be assigned)

  1. Design, plan, administer, communicate, champion and evangelize a strategy to improve the effective use of data in organizational planning and decision making.
  2. Lead a centralized Business Intelligence department tasked with providing enterprise-wide data science and business intelligence services as well as oversight and training to decentralized, embedded data scientists and analysts throughout the business. Develop and manage the annual budget for the Business Intelligence department.
  3. Develop and mentor future data-driven, analytical leaders and strategists across the organization.
  4. Engage in regular dialogue with Business Unit (BU) leaders to foster conversations in order to gain an understanding of the data and analytics challenges and opportunities from each unit.
  5. Partner with BUs to design data analytics projects and develop specific analytical and data science capabilities to achieve organizational goals and operational improvements while enabling and nurturing data-driven decision making.
  6. Articulate and communicate analytical priorities to appropriate constituencies within the organization.
  7. Identify and standardize the use and governance of data. Ensure that the Data users and consumers use the data provisioned to them responsibly through data governance and compliance initiatives. Create policies and procedures for the access, analysis and visualization of data and associated business insights.
  8. Serve as the corporate data systems Product Manager. Drive the strategy, development and deployment of the organization's data systems as well as a roadmap for its future development that aligns with the corporate strategy and business needs. Continuously assess and recommend enhancements to the company’s data architecture and underlying IT infrastructure to ensure data is economically captured, stored, secured, available and usable by appropriate parties throughout the business.
  9. Work closely with IT to oversee the integration and staging of data; and the development, implementation and maintenance of the associated data storage systems.


REQUIREMENTS: (Equivalent combinations of education, licenses, certifications and/or experience may be considered)

EDUCATION

  • Bachelor’s degree in Economics, Statistics, Mathematics, Actuarial/Data/Computer Science or related field required
  • MBA or an advanced degree preferred

 

EXPERIENCE

  • Minimum 7 years of demonstrated experience in data management disciplines including data integration, modeling, optimization and/or data quality required.
  • Minimum 7 years of progressive leadership experience in leading cross-functional teams and enterprise-wide programs, operating and influencing effectively across the organization and within complex contexts required.
  • Experience in integrating complex, inter-departmental processes and information strategies, and/or designing strategic metrics and scorecards required.
  • Experience running data analytics teams using the latest data mining, machine learning and/or artificial intelligence techniques required.
  • Hands-on experience with implementing data management programs preferred.

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Advanced analytical and problem-solving abilities. 
  • Excellent verbal communication skills, including the abilities to explain digital concepts and technologies to business leaders, explain business concepts to technologists and “sell” ideas and processes internally at all levels.
  • Review and approve documentation, reports, and records as completed by subordinate staff.
  • Advance knowledge and practical application of advanced statistical analysis and mathematical modeling concepts and principles.

 

COMPUTER SKILLS

  • Statistical analysis software/packages such as R, Minitab, SAS/STAT, etc.
  • Visualization/BI tools such as Tableau, PowerBI, etc.
  • Ability to write and tune SQL queries
  • Advanced Database/warehouse/lake knowledge; Master Data Management (MDM) applications; and Extract-Transform-Load (ETL/ELT) tool
